In 2021 I came to live in Stradbally, a small coastal village in the South East of Ireland on the Copper Coast, a UNESCO Global Geopark. Living so close to the sea not only reveals the oceans’ uncanny beauty on a daily basis, it also frames the horrific dilemmas of rising sea levels and its impact on coastal erosion, alongside pollution and declining biodiversity. On my daily walks to the tiny Ballyvooney Cove, and through conversations with locals who have lived here all of their lives, I am witness to the impacts of frequent storms of moderate intensity alongside increasing quantities of non natural debris deposited on the shore. Inspired by Elizabeth M DeLoughrey’s book Allegories of the Anthropocene, I’m interested in exploring this tiny cove and recording it’s vulnerabilities and alterations as it transitions through the next year of climate change. I hope to do this through photography, video and painting as a new project during 2025/26.
